RH bill promotes 'indecency' among youth: senator

Friday, May 13, 2011

SENATOR Antonio Trillanes IV has urged the government to prioritize and fast-track the approval of the Freedom of Information bill pending before the Senate over controversial Reproductive Health (RH) bill.
Neither the government nor the people can benefit from RH bill, which only promotes "indecency" among youth, he said.
Trillanes, who authored the Freedom of Information bill, said it is an urgent bill that the legislative department must tackle.

"You can stand together and convince the government that the information bill must be immediately passed" Trillanes urged the media during Friday's Kapihan sa PIA.
The senator criticized RH bill supporters in Congress, saying the bill will make condoms accessible to those who need it.
"Can you imagine your grade five daughters or granddaughter will ask you on how to use the condoms?" Trillanes illustrates the gray area of the bill.
He added that there are a lot of concerns that the government should confront rather than allocating budget for the RH bill.
Trillanes said a P45 billion budget is too much and that there are other programs of the government that needs funds.

Sex is always been a sensitive subject matter among us , Filipinos, especially to the minors ages 18 and below. I , as a minor , also take part in this social issue that we are all confronted of. It has always been one of the trending issues that makes morality come in between. Because of this , the church and the state are having conflicts due to their different views & beliefs. Since then , there has been already a separation of this 2 important institutions of the society. So it is not new to us anymore especially we are now facing national problems.

I as a minor , a woman , a student , a daughter and as a citizen of this country , strongly supports the RH Bill. I may sound absurd to those who go for anti-RH bill especially to those religious leaders but I stand for what I see is good & right. Don't judge me for what I believe because as far as I know , we live in the modern day not in the pre-historic period . It's not that I am a liberated girl but it's just the reality. We live in a world , where we must compete with each other or shall I say the survival of the fittest . Tell me , how are you going to survive if you are still imprisoned by the past and you can't move forward ? It's already 2011, there have been many advancements including the technologies and our lifestyle so we must live by it.  On the other hand , I am pro RH Bill because I see it as one of the probable solutions to stop the rapid growth of our population and to think all our problems and issues are rooted from overpopulation. This is the logic, if there many people not enough for their needs to be accommodated , means a lot of stomach to be fed , a lot housing to be provided , a lot of social benefits to be administered. If these things will not be equally distributed to the people so what do you expect will happen ? Of course , people won't wait for another 48 years just to act and wait until they die. Human as we are , we look for ways so that we can survive. So if you are going to consider poverty , hunger , unemployment and many social issues do you think people can still think of good deeds ? Due to poverty , some were forced to steal money and worst is to kill people so they can have food to eat for their families. This is very rampant in our country. Crime is indeed everywhere. I was so disgusted because even the government officials can't address some of these problems what more to these poor people who have nothing but their guts to live & survive ? Come to think of it , overpopulation is equals to high crime & unemployment rate and low illiteracy . So, what can be our solution to this ? Of course , we should minimize & lower down the population. If you ask how , then I'll say by using CONTRACEPTIVES like condoms. I may seem too straight to the point but that's the way it is. It is better to prevent pregnancy through this method than to kill people who have life already. Which is more immoral ? My view as a student is that, it wouldn't be immoral if we are going to use condoms when having sex. why not ? It's the safest way to prevent from getting pregnant and there's no life which is at stake because there is still no fertilization of egg . Do you get it ? There's no meeting of egg & the sperm cell so what's wrong ? Anyway , if the religious consider it as a sin because we are violating God's will , but infact we can still produce and repack more egg & sperm cells for reproduction if it is really needed for a woman to bear a child . I wonder why the church keep on arguing with this , well infact there's no other way. I am a little bit mad at them cause they are just making the issue complicated because they are much engrossed with their beliefs which are not really applicable all of the time. I mean, they keep insisting that it's a sin. So if they don't like it, let's leave this issue to them . Let them solve the issue of overpopulation , poverty , STD's. Let them find ways to address this and sooner or later let's see if there will be progress in our country.  I am not saying that I am anti-Christ, of course I believe in God & Jesus the Lord but come on, wake up we also need to take a step.

Speaking of the issue that the RH bill promotes "INDECENCY" among youth , allow me to say this but it is a STUPIDITY. Wanna know why ? Because , it is only those ignorant people who become indecent. It wouldn't mean that it instills bad impression to the youth because it fact it gives us a message or a lesson that we must be careful because we are the ones who are prone to early pregnancy especially to women. How come would it become indecent , if the parents , the teachers and those who are concerned about this issue know how to introduce and make the youth understand the purpose , the advantages & the disadvantages of using condoms . It really depends on the mind set of the people. Let's just be open minded , though it is still important not to accept everything that they've been telling you because most importantly we must learn to think and decide wisely whether if its acceptable or not. We must not be ignorant . We must be smart and practical. In this time of crisis , we must consider what are the vital and necessary things for living. If this issue offends many people , therefore I apologize.

Economically , the high production of contraceptives may contribute help to our economy.

As a student , well equipped with knowledge , I will help the government make this bill a law so we can give solutions to our problems that we have endured for many years. We need change and the change must start within us. I am going to make a difference.

To all who are already engaged in sexual activities and to those who plan to enter , this I tell you, "It is still better to abstain from sex and wait for the right time for God blesses those who patiently wait" God bless us all.
